BOGOTA & LOS ANGELES

JASON(33)
The character through which all narratives are intertwined. A creatively inert writer who has been living in Bogota for over a year. His haunted detachment is burst when he rescues a street girl (Serafina) one fated night. From there a relationship ensues and his creativity is re-ignited. This symbiosis flourishes in an initial period of hope. The more consumed he becomes with his work however, the less he cares for his newly-found muse. Only when this feisty girl/woman challenges him with all of her might is Jason able to see his way out of the true dilemma: the fact that he has not confronted a monumental tragedy in his past. LEAD. To be played by Daniel Gillies.

CLAYTON(65)
The manager of Jason. A decadent and irreverent figure, Clayton stands in direct contrast with the surroundings of Bogota. Beneath a lingering superficiality however, exists a deep concern for his client's state-of-mind and health. This is revealed when he pays a visit to Marilyn in Los Angeles at the end of the piece, only to be met by cold rage. LEAD. Seymour Cassel has the offer.

LOS ANGELES

MARILYN (28)
A young woman and teacher at 'Full Circle' Day-Care. She meets Chris during an awkward exchange at the school and they later begin dating. Marilyn's preoccupation with Chris's son Julian, unearths the dark tragedy which she endures .
LEAD. To be played by Rachael Cook.

CHRIS (35)
The caucasian father of an African-American boy (Julian). He and Marilyn have a seemingly immediate and potent chemistry. After dating Marilyn only once, he leaves for a work conference in NYC. Upon his return, he discovers that Marilyn has not only been in communications with his ex-wife, but that she has developed an unusual fascination with his son. LEAD. To be played by Darren LeGallo.

JILL (30+)
Marilyn's co-worker at 'Full Circle'. Jill watches with a cumulative disquiet as Marilyn deteriorates throughout the film. SUPPORTING LEAD. Open to all ethnicities and ages above 30 years.

JULIAN (3)
The African-American son of Jessica and Chris. No written dialogue.

NINA (33)
Once close to Marilyn, she has lost contact in the last year due to the tragedy which has befallen them. After seeing her reclusive friend out jogging one day, she invites Marilyn for coffee. The reunion however, precipitates unspoken grief and anger.
SUPPORTING LEAD. Kim Hawthorne has the offer.

JESSICA (30)
African-American. Mother of Julian and Ex-Wife of Chris. When Jessica and Marilyn meet at the school, she leaps to a false conclusion which infuriates her. When corrected, she departs embarrassed, leaving Marilyn uneasy about her situation with Chris. 1 MAJOR SCENE - 2 pages.

BOGOTA

SERAFINA (14)
A gamine from the mountain slums above Ciudad Bolivar. Forced into prostitution, she is acquainted with the tremendous cruelty of impoverished Bogota. Rescued by Jason from a band of thugs, Serafina soon befriends this peculiar man; becoming something of a muse as well as a companion to him. However, as time passes and Jason becomes more consumed by his work, Serafina tries every measure in order to restore the dream of a different life with this man. LEAD.

VALENTINA (22)
A student at Universidad de Los Andes. Wrestling with financial burdens and an alcoholic mother, Valentina ventures into a scheme where angels fear to tread. At the late night dive-bar where she works she meets Jason, who seems like the perfect first candidate for any Prepagos: a plain-clothes civilian prostitute. In spite of Jason's initial disgust, he eventually consents. Later however, she is violently rejected when she refuses to help Jason in coming to Serafina's aid. Valentina does not then return to the film until close to the end, when she and her friend Karmen have 'snared' 2 Businessmen and willing customers. When the intentions of the Businessmen become sordid however, it is Serafina who happens by and must come to their rescue. LEAD. Must speak excellent English.

HERNANDO (38 - 45)
The Uncle of Serafina. A lost and bitter spirit. Haunted by the death of his brother and the subsequent relationship with his brother's widow, Hernando casts a dark shadow of regret and foreboding. SUPPORTING LEAD.

KARMEN (22-25)
A fellow student of Valentina. Her boastful rant at the outset of the movie is what inspires Valentina to try a spell as a Prepagos. Karmen and Valentina even 'join forces' at the end of the piece, though Karmen's intoxication could well yield horrific abuse at the hands of the Businessmen. SUPPORTING LEAD.

ANNA (45)
Valentina's mother. Lost in the mire of alcoholism. Having squandered her daughter's savings, she precipitates Valentina's journey into prostitution. SUPPORTING LEAD.

BUSINESSMEN 1&2 (25-40)
Foreigners. Though not disclosed through dialogue, it is clear that these guys think they have a 'deal' with Valentina and Karmen. As the night progresses and Valentina's anxiety increases however, we discover that they are not exactly willing to negotiate an 'exit plan' for the girls. It is Serafina who ultimately sabotages their brutal intentions.. Caucasian. Must speak English. About 5 pages of dialogue between them. Preferably British or North American.

JUAN (3) & FERDINAND (5)
Serafina's cousins. The son's of the brooding Hernando. In one scene Juan is bound by his ankle to a table post, illustrating Hernando's neglect and irresponsibility. Ferdinand is nowhere to be found. No written dialogue.

4 DANCERS
Flanked around Jason and Clayton in a clumsy overture to cheer Jason up. The girls are confused by Jason's apathy and Clayton's irreverence. One Dancer - 4 lines of dialogue. All in their late teens early 20s. Larger, commercially unconventional girls.

WAITRESS (25)
Serves Jason and Clayton at an outdoor Bogotano café. 1 line in broken English.

ASSISTANT 1&2
