Big Thanks + Update

That last push from you guys was simply outstanding.
Well over our target :)

Some recent developments:

Isaias is currently off IV fluids and eating well.
He’s behaving as if he’s not sick, running around and wreaking havoc (mom has to chase him with his IV!)
He’s potty training and learning rapidly.

All of this information is incredibly encouraging. I’m just delighted that we were able to raise the money when Isaias is in such high spirits.

Naturally the battle is far from over —

Tomorrow they talk to the doctor. Isaias will likely undergo 12 days of radiation in June/July, with weekends off, and 5 days of antibody treatment. The strength that not only Isaias must require…but also his family, is just a staggering thought to me.

And thanks to you guys — ALL OF THIS WILL BE EASIER.

I can not scream this vehemently enough…

Now to some big-thank-you time:

Firstly, I’d like to acknowledge Perla - Isaias’ mother - who lovingly watches her boy without respite for 5 out of 7 days of the week. Talking to you was both humbling and inspiring. You are a warrior. Xx

Perla’s mother Yaneth Aparicio (Isaias’ Grandmother) is also devoted to no end. Driving her Grandson whenever/wherever necessary and sharing the ceaseless attention Isaias requires for both hospital care and fundamental support.

To the Quintana family: Who NEVER asked for any of this, but rather patiently navigated with me the slightly difficult path of getting this done. Reginald Jr., Reginald Sr., Wendy, Kashmir and Kristen… You have been nothing but charming and helpful. I hope you know that walking this path was not simply a way to help Isaias…but also a huge acknowledgement to other families enduring this disease.

A huge shout-out to @Britax, who donated a brand new car-seat for Isaias.

To Andrea Reuter, who graciously translated our website into both German and French for us. You are a sweetheart.

Lynn Godwin and Kelly Chistensen — who found methods of helping me which were both innovative and insanely generous. They sacrificed their own precious time and energy to help achieve what we had started.

To Amy Malin over at www.trueheartsevents.com for introducing my wife and I to Isaias and the Quintana family. Without your boundless compassion and sacrifice, people would probably remain blissfully unaware and tragically uninformed.

Last, but not least — Clara Aranovich, my incredible assistant. She was basically the Master of Ceremonies and finessed even the smallest details of the fundraiser. Everything from the Website, to bank accounts, to insurances, legal garbage and a mountain of emails. Essentially I needed someone more intelligent, technologically savvy and diplomatically courteous than I, for any of this to happen. Ms. Aranovich kept the plates spinning, when I was swamped here in Toronto.

An important message from Clara:

So many of you have asked how else you can be of help, or have shared your own personal stories about a battle with cancer. Because there are a staggering number of children just like Isaias who need help, don’t forget that at any time you can make a donation to the CHLA (or a similar hospital) and even specify that your funds go to pediatric cancer research. And regardless of whether you’re in the position to donate funds or not, you can always consider making a donation of blood or platelets, which at times can have an even greater impact.

To Isaias, who has become slightly Iconic in the last several weeks as both a figurehead for this disease and an image of the why communities can do remarkable things when they find a good and common cause.

'Broken Kingdom' & 'Kingdom Come' at Newport Beach Film Festival.

Folks —

As I mentioned in some Tweets yesterday, I have a couple of films playing in the Festival at Newport Beach commencing this weekend.

The first is a movie I wrote and directed — ‘Broken Kingdom’ — which we shot in Colombia and the U.S. This is the West Coast Premiere. The movie stars Rachael Leigh Cook (hotness incarnate), Seymour Cassel, Darren Le Gallo and myself. I am very proud of this work and infinitely indebted to those who helped in its birth.

SYNOPSIS — Two stories weave their way from the harrowing slums of Bogotá to the lofty hills of Hollywood. A 14-year-old prostitute and an eccentric American writer forge a peculiar companionship, while a day-care teacher in Los Angeles does everything she can to fight the weight of a tragic secret.

The other is a Documentary my great friendS and Producing partners, John Murphy and Paiman Kalayeh created. The piece is called ‘Kingdom Come’. It not only conveys the arduous creation of ‘Broken Kingdom’ but it also talks to some extraordinary Industry folks about the current state of Independent Film. The piece is a splendid, heartfelt and honest chronicle of a very difficult period of our lives.

Mark Ruffalo, Don Cheadle, Ron Perlman, Kevin Smith, Ed Burns, Alan Cumming and many more incredible folks blessed us with interviews.

Truth be told — I have a lot of stuff that I’d love some help and guidance with. Not immediately, but some things are coming. 3 Major Things:

1) I met this incredible little boy — Isaias — with a serious medical condition and I’d like to see what I can do to help his family. He’s priority.

2) The new show ‘Saving Hope’ is going remarkably well — Can’t wait ‘til we hit the air. I’d love your help promoting the shit out of this as we get close to air with NBC. City of Toronto is really growing on me, too. So impressed with this Production. Gonna be a smart and sexy beast this thing.

3) Broken Kingdom. That movie I made. Not only is it going to play in Newport Beach Film Festival, but we’re also plotting a launch and release to the world. I can’t wait to get it to you. It’s looking beautiful. With that stuff, I’m definitely recruiting yo’ asses, should you be willing and not ready to murder my incessant face.

Kingdom Not So Broken...

So this is cool.

As we mentioned in our Interactor vid — http://goo.gl/XcVtT — Post-Production on any movie requires Sound Design, Film Transfer, Festival Expenses, Editing, Re-Editing, Color Grading, HDCam Transfers, Music Composition, Music Licensing, Animation, Credits, etc.
The list goes on and on.

Little Indie films like ours’ usually get murdered in this part of the process.
The total required for our Post Production was going to be around 50k.

However —

Thanks to several extremely generous folks who perform all kinds of wonderful services in Post-Pro, John (my wonderful Producer) and I have struck a recent deal — because we appear to have met some heroes as passionate about our movie as we are.

This is such a HUGE relief and a great gift to Broken Kingdom.

Essentially this total has been drastically reduced.
Now we only require 30k total.

Which means that the total we have raised already is well over half that which is required.

Boom!

We are still closing up this deal - but I am so happy.
I wanted to share this with you guys who have so vigilantly waited and supported ‘Broken Kingdom’.

Many of you donated so readily.
I’m always so touched that you are as eager to see it in the world as I am.

You are rock stars.

That is all.

PS - Please continue to dance naked wherever possible and whenever law enforcement is nowhere in sight.

Busy times at Ridgemont High.

However, I’d like to say thank you to the many who have contributed to Broken Kingdom.

Although we lapsed for a few weeks in there (probably due to my negligence/absence) the money continues to steadily arrive from generous peeps all over the place.

It’s really inspiring and deeply humbling.
This project has been such a massive aspect of my life and the fact that so many strangers are willing to enforce the delivery of this creature into the world, is…kinda…

I can’t thank you enough.

As I mentioned in the vid — there are a ton more donations (somehow I received to my company address) which still require to be placed in the Interactor total. We’ve really made a significant climb in the last 2 weeks — It’s been amazing.

Also — because we’ve had folks come to us from Post Production houses with some various offers — it looks as though we’ll be able to take our target down from 50k to around 30k. Which is huge, for us.

We’re getting there. Thanks to you.
